Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions apply to all products and services supplied by STS Gates (“we”, “us”, “our”). By placing an order, you agree to these terms. 

 

1. BESPOKE PRODUCTS 

All STS Gates products are custom made to your required sizes and specifications. 
Therefore: 

  • Orders cannot be cancelled once production has begun. 

  • The 14 day consumer cooling off period does not apply to bespoke/custom-made goods. 

 

2. DEPOSITS & PAYMENT 

  • A 30% deposit is required to secure your order. 

  • Production begins only after the deposit is received. 

  • The remaining balance must be paid in full before delivery or installation. 

  • Products remain the property of STS Gates until full payment is received. 

  • Deposits become non-refundable after 14 days, unless production has already begun — in which case they are non-refundable immediately. 

 

3. MEASUREMENTS 

3.1 Measurements taken by STS Gates 

If we attend your property to take measurements, we accept responsibility for sizing. 

3.2 Measurements provided by the customer 

If you supply your own measurements, we manufacture to those sizes. 
We are not liable if the product does not fit due to incorrect measurements. 

 

4. LEAD TIMES 

Lead time is estimated at 5–6 weeks from order confirmation. 
Lead times are estimates only and may vary due to production workload, material availability, subcontractor scheduling, or external delays. 

 

5. PRODUCT FINISH 

  • Hot-dip galvanised products may have a slightly rough or uneven finish. This is normal and not considered a defect. 

  • Powder-coated finishes are subject to standard industry tolerances. 

  • Rust protection durations are estimates and can vary depending on exposure. 

  • Galvanising itself is not guaranteed by the galvanisers. 

 

6. DELIVERY 

  • Deliveries are made Monday–Friday between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. 

  • Exact time slots cannot be guaranteed. 

  • Customers must be available to accept delivery. 

  • Delivery damage must be reported within 48 hours, with photographic evidence. 

  • Once delivered, responsibility for the product passes to the customer. 

 

7. INSTALLATION 

Installation may be carried out by STS Gates or a trusted subcontractor working on our behalf. 

7.1 When STS Gates (or our subcontractor) installs the product 

  • We will arrange an installation date once the order is ready. 

  • The installation area must be accessible, safe, and clear. 

  • Installation includes fitting the product to the agreed specification. 

  • Additional charges may apply for unforeseen issues (e.g., uneven ground, structural issues, extra materials, removal of old gates). 

  • We are responsible for workmanship carried out by our team or subcontractor. 

  • Installation workmanship is included in your warranty. 

7.2 When the customer arranges their own installation 

If you choose to use your own installer: 

  • We are not responsible for any damage or faults caused during installation. 

  • Any issues arising from incorrect installation are not covered under warranty. 

  • You must ensure your installer is competent and qualified. 

7.3 Electrical components 

Any wiring or automation work must be carried out by a qualified electrician. 
Damage or faults caused by third-party electrical work are not covered. 

 

8. RETURNS & MANUFACTURING ISSUES 

Since all products are bespoke, we do not accept returns unless: 

  • The item is defective, or 

  • A manufacturing error has been made by us 

Manufacturing defects must be reported within 7 days of delivery or installation, with photos. 

 

9. WARRANTY 

STS Gates provides the following warranties: 

9.1 10-Year Warranty (Structural Work Only) 

Covers: 

  • Steel frames 

  • Composite boards 

  • Metal gates and railings (structure only) 

Covers workmanship and structural integrity. 

 

9.2 1-Year Warranty 

Covers: 

  • Handles 

  • Locks  

 

9.3 Items With No Warranty 

  • Letterboxes have no warranty. 

  • Other components have no warranty 

 

9.4 Warranty Exclusions 

The warranty does not cover: 

  • Damage from incorrect installation (if not installed by STS Gates) 

  • Damage after delivery 

  • Misuse or accidental damage 

  • Wear and tear 

  • Environmental effects (storms, flooding, movement of ground, coastal salt exposure, etc.) 

  • Scratches, chips, or cosmetic marks 

  • Movement or sagging caused by posts installed in unstable ground 

  • Work carried out by third parties 

 

10. LIABILITY 

We are not liable for: 

  • Incorrect customer measurements 

  • Delays outside our control 

  • Additional costs due to site conditions 

  • Damage after delivery 

  • Damage caused by third-party installers 

  • Loss of income, business losses, or indirect damages 

Our liability is limited to the value of the order. 

 

11. FORCE MAJEURE 

We are not responsible for delays or failure to perform due to events outside our control, including weather, supplier delays, material shortages, transport issues, strikes, or other unexpected circumstances. 

 

12. GOVERNING LAW 

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. 
Any disputes will be handled exclusively by the courts of England and Wales.
